Bill Dube Video Travels the Web

Making the rounds of the internet is a video of Bill Dube with his electric racing bike.     After describing new battery technology that came from MIT, he gets on the 600 plus pound 400 hp motorcycle, which he says is capable of going 0-60 in under one second.     Starting with a burnout, he then takes off on the bike, ultimately running it into the side of a parked mini-van, and the video ends as they load him into the ambulance.     Most interesting, particularly at a time when motorcycle safety is all over the news, is the fact that he wears no safety gear whatsoever.  Not even a helmet.     Why would anyone demonstrate a motorcycle with these capabilities while not wearing safety gear?  Even a novice would figure out that burnouts are hard on tires, and often send chunks of rubber flying.  While tire failure was not a factor in this accident, obviously the doing of a burnout increases your risk of tire failure.     Running an under one second 0-60 time would obviously require a fair amount of room to accomplish.  Another obvious red flag, that screams out in this video.     I hope Dube is on to something with this motorcycle, and I am fascinated by the battery technology.     Too bad that this event will be remembered primarily as an example of poor motorcycle safety practices. 10 application/xml false Bill Dube electric motorcycle Motorcycle Motorcycle Crash motorcycle safety Motorcycle Video Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 mpadway false true false false true 201650 false false true false false false true 106835 blog blogsite/MichaelPadway/web
