Certain Motorcycles Seem to Feed Motorcycle Addiction

In the last few weeks, I have heard a number of riders mention Honda CL350's, a bike that has been out of circulation for years. The most recent AMA (American Motorcycle Association) issue of Motorcyclist has an article on this bike, and another on the new CBR 600, a bike which "makes the difficult things easy".

These bikes, and certain others, are endearing, because they simplify riding, and deliver exactly what they promise.

Motorcycling is difficult if you are critical of your riding skills. Most long term riders like to take an occasional course. Most of us also read publications that contain some riding tips and instruction. Most of us will work on one or another facet of riding at various times.

That said, there is something particularly appealing about a bike that makes it easy. This can be a bike that is light, balanced, and simple. It can be a bike that just works smoothly, especially in challenging situations.

More and more, it is every bike. Electronics assist our braking, possibly saving our necks when a car cuts in front of us. Adjustable everything is becoming more common. Electronic engine controls smooth out the power curve.

While many riders hark back to the "good old days", I disagree. In my opinion, the very best bikes, ever, are available right now. No only are there plenty of good looking new motorcycles, but there are many, many great rides.

One of the most interesting facets of this phenomenon is that some of the greatest kick around, do it all, ride it to the store because you want to, motorcycles out there are the less prominent motorcycles that have been around awhile. Not the fastest, biggest, baddest, or most expensive. These motorcycles are almost invisible in the lineup. This is a huge advantage, because it means that it is possible to pick up a less expensive bike, supported with special factory financing, and have a great time.

For those of us who just want to enjoy riding, and want a lot of motorcycle for a reasonable amount of money, this is surely the golden age of motorcycles.
