| December 11, 2007 | | 25% of California Motorists are Uninsured | I'm embarrassed, but not really, to bring this up once again, but I noticed the recent statistic that 25% of California drivers are uninsured.
Whether these drivers also have no license, or lost their license, makes little difference if they hit your motorcycle or cut you off. In those situations, you are going to wish you had uninsured motorist coverage. This is coverage under YOUR policy, that will pay YOU if you are injured because of negligent driving by an uninsured driver. If the other driver has too little coverage, uninsured motorist coverage will act as underinsured coverage, and will provide additional coverage up to the limit you purchase.
Over and over, I hear from injured riders who bought insurance through the dealership, and just got the minimum required to drive away. Big Mistake.
Now you know that, in California at least, you will want this coverage one-fourth of the time that you need help after an accident.
