| December 10, 2009 | | Drive By Wire Failures Causing Motorcycle Crashes | Drive by wire is commonplace on cars. A few years ago, it was a big deal, now it hardly rates a mention.
So it was pretty foreseeable that drive by wire would come to motorcycles. Most of the same advantages should apply.
Unfortunately, as with many new technologies, there are some adjustments that need to be made in translating to a new platform.
I am starting to hear rumblings of accidents being caused by failures in these units as installed on new bikes. Throttles stuck open in the middle of turns, stuff like that.
I'm not ready to draw any conclusions, and at least some of the accidents seem to be from work in the shop, rather than designed in from the manufacturer.
Now much to be done during this sorting out period, other than be very careful.
