| August 05, 2009 | | Nothing like the Road, the Road, the Road | Just finished a 770 mile ride from Park City, Utah, to the Bay Area. Lots of construction on highway 80, so it took longer than it should have. Still a great ride. Salt Lake, Bonneville Salt Flats, and the Sierra's always make it interesting. Because of time pressure, I took 80, as opposed to 50, or even 88 from Lake Tahoe.
That said, I am always amazed at how good it is to just get out on the road and start making miles.
Riding early in the day is a great way to get some miles in before the brutal heat starts. Ice in the pockets is a great help to get across the desert. This time, I was caught in a thunderstorm, which was greatly appreciated as the wetness evaporated in the heat of Sacramento.
This time I swore I would learn to use the Victory's CB radio for the first time. It was a total kick. Two truckers were discussing how cool the bike was, and wondering what it was. I hit the talk button, said "VIctory Vision", and clicked off. It was hilarious listening to them discuss where that information came from. They never figured out that the motorcycle had a CB radio.
Of course it was stupidly easy to use the CB radio, and I felt foolish having waited this long to figure it out. It will be a staple of future rides.
