| April 08, 2009 | | The Sweet Spot Between Sport and Touring | For years BMW owned the sweet spot between Sport and Touring. Fun to ride, able to do long distances, and the ability to work the twisties when you find them.
Yesterday I went to California Sport Touring to pick up my new Ventura Luggage for the Speed Triple. I've never seen this product in the flesh, and I have been working to find a solution that will allow me to put more miles on the bike. The Sergant seat is such a huge improvement that it makes good luggage all the more important. I'll report on the Ventura system once I have it in place and use it.
California Sport Touring is owned by Kim Leong, who retired from law enforcement to pursue his passion. He owns several bikes in the sport touring mode, and knows his stuff.
The store is extremely well thought out, and has the best selection I have seen in the sport touring niche. He actually has a selection of Givi luggage you can look at, touch, and operate. There are other brands as well. He has a great selection of GPS and electrical fittings, quality textile riding clothes, helmets, and far too much else to list.
Suffice it to say, I was impressed. I am in shops all week long, and this was a unique selection.
One thing in particular that was very cool was the Givi Trolley, an upscale fabric rolling bag that would make a first class carry on. It fits solidly to the Givi rack, and I would not hesitate to put files or a laptop in the bag. The bag itself looks like any other upscale fabric luggage, and I would not hesitate to take it anywhere in any business setting.
The store is located in Hercules, but they also do a lot of business online. This will be a regular stop for me, as sport touring has always been my niche.
