| May 15, 2008 | | Motorcycle Accident Season | Hot days, places to ride, lots of riders on the road. Motorcycle season is here. Tough decisions to be made, for sure. Full face helmet? Is it too hot? Leather is definitely less comfortable in the heat. Kevlar and Cordura are better, but still can be hard to wear in the heat. Jeans seem to become the material of choice, Kevlar or Aramid linings a compromise. Body armor blocks air flow, even with holes in it. Leather gloves get wet with perspiration, and will rot over time. (Remember to flush them out with water periodically to avoid this).
Other drivers seem to be at their worst in the summer. A few too many beers, maybe pre-occupied with where they are going, and not alert enough to watch for motorcycles.
This is the time to have fun on your motorcycle. It is also the time to take care on the road. Think before and during your ride. Ride safe, and enjoy the ride. [My wife will correct this to "ride safely - but I have never heard anyone use this phrase with the correct usage].
