| March 17, 2008 | | New Bike for Mike | I couldn't really help myself, and before the last roulette green speed triple disappeared from the dealerships, I asked Hattar Motorsports to order one up.
There is something about a Speed Triple that defies description. The inherently balanced three cylinder engine with the crank spacing at 120 degrees results in an engine that just feels like it wants to run with you. The short wheelbase and light weight are in some funny ways reminiscent of the "go to the market" bikes of years past, when you just jumped on the bike in the driveway any time you wanted to get anywhere.
And of course, that roulette green color. Wow. I went back and forth between getting one of the last roulette green bikes, and a black special edition. Of course, the 50 special editions sold out in a flash, but there was a press bike available. On the one hand, an Arrow exhaust, and a few thousand bucks worth of carbon fiber. On the other hand, the press is pretty hard on the bikes they test, particularly a bike without proper breakin. On the one hand, Triumph makes sure the press bikes are as perfect as possible. On the other hand, little careless scratches all over, and belly pan scratching from dragging on the pavement.
At the end of the day -roulette green, the winner.
Of course, Hattar will take care of me, even offering to deliver the bike if it will save me a trip. They don't know that I'd rather go out there. Great shop, and always a great time, even if I just get another T-shirt for my incredible motorcycle T-shirt collection.
More to come on this, of course, starting later this week, when delivery is promised.
