| December 03, 2007 | | Saved by CalMoto Once Again | Sunday I was using the bike, parked on a sidewalk, and a passerby pointed out that there was something shiny on my front tire. Uh Oh!
Turns out it was a giant screwhead, and the screwhead was sticking out from the tire about 3/8 of an inch. I had the stuff to plug the tire and limp to the dealer, but truthfully, it was holding air, and I didn't want to get totally govered in tire crud dealing with it.
Off to CalMoto I went, about a 45 minute very nervous ride. It was very windy, and so I kept imagining that the handling was deteriorating. By the time I got close to CalMoto, the handling was, in fact, noticeably off, but it still felt good enough to push onward.
Of course, being a BMW rider (how spoiled I've become), at one point I realized that I needed to turn on the grip heaters. No sense in suffering, just because I was totally absorbed with nervous tension.
Miracle of Miracles, I made it to CalMoto. Unfortunately, the service department had closed 20 minutes earlier, and the doors to the service bays were locked.
Fortunately, when I went inside, they got Mike, the service manager (Kari's partner). He managed to write the service order (quite rusty), opened up the back, and traded my bike for a loaner. At that point, I was on my merry way.
That kind of above and beyond service will be remembered for a long time. I might also mention that the next time you try to save a few bucks on a helmet over the internet, you consider where you would be without dealers who are willing to go all out for you.
