| October 31, 2007 | | Uninsured Motorists Continue to Injure Riders | As usual, I am up to my ears in seriously injured motorcycle riders who have nowhere to go for compensation with their injuries.
As usual, the reason is that they were cut off, hit, injured, by drivers with no insurance.
This is a preventable problem. Every motorcycle insurance company that issues liability policies will also sell you an uninsured motorist policy. Not only does this coverage come into play when you are injured by an uninsured motorist, but if you are injured by a driver with low limits, your own uninsured motorist coverage can cover you above those low limits.
This coverage is (relatively) inexpensive, provides needed coverage far too often, and is one of the places where you pay for insurance that benefits you, not someone else.
I rant, I rave, I lecture, buy this coverage. Yet, time after time, I share the bitter taste in my mouth with potential clients who turn out to have nowhere to go, because the particular car that hit them has either no coverage, or low limits.
Please review your motocycle insurance policy. Now.
