Tunes To Ride By

Music on the Motorcycle
I always agreed with whoever said that they didn't want a stereo on their motorcycle, or engine sounds in their living room.  As a result, it is somewhat surprising to me how much I enjoy having a sound system on my motorcycle.

I chose an Autocom system, because of what I had heard about the sound supression and clarity of sound using the intercom.  In fact, you really can hear music and the passenger at most speeds, although it does get rough above a certain level of wind noise.

A few times in the past I experimented with less expensive systems.  The results were usually that I could hear only at lower speeds, and never really well.  There may be many systems out there that are as good as the Autocom.  It's just what I happened to choose based on limited research.

Riding with the ipod going is like skiing listening to music.  It adds a rhythm that makes everything happen with a certain smoothness.

This rhythm seems to improve actual riding, but I was most surprised by how much it helps the entire riding experience.  Far more than simply a mindsop for long interstates, the music makes it more enjoyable to be outside even at lower speeds, and especially in traffic.

If you haven't tried it yet, you should.  You may be surprised.
