| April 05, 2007 | | Have a Hobby and Plan for the Future | I ran into a lawyer who has been buying cars for investment. Lots of them, like 900 cars that he keeps in a warehouse.
Unfortunately, this is not a Jay Leno scenario, where he really loves cars and understands them. Not that he doesn't like them, but he really isn't involved like most collectors. However, he seems to be spot on with his belief that collectible cars are a great investment at the moment.
This got me thinking about motorcycle collectins as a way to enjoy great bikes while investing for the future.
The Motorcycle Hall of Fame has some tips on this hobby. While very basic, they are also right on. You can see these by clicking through the AMA Directlink News site.
In my view, the important points are buying bikes you personally really like, knowing the values so that you don't overpay, and buying only the best - restoration is expensive and rarely a good way to make money. An interesting suggestion the Hall of Fame adds, is to wait at least three years before starting a restoration. Use the time to investigate. After all, this is one of those areas where knowledge is everything.
