| October 03, 2006 | | Accidents Are the Same - Women On Motorcycles No Longer News | Without noticing, I have been the lawyer representing women riders more and more frequently in my career as a motorcycle attorney.
Not surprising, since women are now 10% of the motorcycle riding population.
Also not surprising, the nature of the accidents and injuries is exactly the same as male riders. That is, the overwhelming majority of the cases involve a left hand turn that cuts off the rider. The most common injuries are broken wrists, broken pelvis, and lower leg fractures.
The one difference that I have noticed is that women tend to ride smaller bikes, which may be a function of seat height as well as weight.
One obvious prediction is that not only riding gear, but motorcycles will be designed specifically for women in ever greater numbers.
