| August 31, 2006 | | End of Summer Sees Prices Fall | Once again I find myself doing battle with the insurance companies who simply won't treat injured motorcyclists decently.
My standard situation is a rider who is too injured to ride, but still wants to be treated fairly on the repair or replacement of his/her motorcycle.
The major automobile insurance carriers have a way of making this miserable as they nickel-and-dime while delaying, delaying, delaying. Then they balk at paying the storage and loss of use charges that have acrued while they stalled on paying for the damage.
A new twist on this is that the insurance carrier will obtain a value for the motorcycle from a service, but meanwhile a month or more has passed since the accident.
We all know that motorcycle prices change drastically from a high in spring, to steady in summer, and dropping in fall. This can make a significant difference in the valuation process.
When looking at a property damage offer, make sure that everything in the equivalent bikes chosen for pricing is the same: location, condition, mileage, model, accessories, and also - time of year of the sale.
