Summer's Here With Hot Weather Gear

T-shirts and Shorts Are Not Body Armor

We're in full season, and its hot.

I can't tell you how many riders I have seen out there with t-shirts or shorts on motorcycles, but I can tell you what happens when they crash.

There have been so many improvements to riding gear and body armor, and there are so many choices in summer gear with lighter weights, perforated leather, and breathable fabrics, that there really aren't a whole lot of excuses any more.

Particulary sticky in my mind is the rider who already had surgical hardware in his knee, riding in shorts. While there are certainly arguments to be made that the knee injury he received in an accident would have resulted in any event, reality is that it wouldn't have hurt to have body armor on the knee.

It's too late now to know if he could have avoided further injury to a very bad knee by wearing body armor.

Truthfully, for a buck, you can load your pockets with ice, and let it cool you off as it drips down and evaporates.

I really like what I do for a living, as a motorcycle attorney, but sometimes I have to wonder about riders who take unnecessary risks.
